2026 goals: quick update

Sew more

Doing well with this. My rate of sewing has slowed considerably in recent months, but I’ve continued making clothing that I love and that fits me beautifully. This year I’ve made a couple of button down shirts and I’m most of the way through a gorgeous dress, complete with an invisible zip.

My next project will probably be a set of leopard print scrubs, because why not?

Orchestra

Goal: three concerts. So far I’ve played one with QMO, I’m working out whether I can play the second in July. I think I can, just depends on my roster. I’d intended to sing in the choir for this midyear concert, but I think it will come down to my availability for rehearsals, and also my feelings about letting down the viola section by not playing. I suspect they need violas more than altos. But we’ll see.

Visit the library

This has fallen away a bit, as has my reading. That’s okay. I will pick it up again soon.

Observe seasonal festivals

This is still very much a personal observance but I’m doing well with this. Samhain in particular was a time I was very conscious of the changing seasons: we had about a week of sun showers, which felt like the veil between two worlds thinning. It made me think a lot about the way people who are no longer in my life are still influencing me: how real and present they still are, while usually invisible.

Do a pull up

I’ve reassessed this goal considerably. I’ve just quit my gym membership. I had an MRI done recently on my lower back: the gym is not the right place for me at the moment. I’m going to look into yoga or Pilates classes I think. I’m still very keen to get stronger, but heavy weights, sadly, are not it for me any more.

Nursing

I start as a graduate RN in a couple of days. It’s been quite an anxious wait, but I’m here and I’m thrilled to be starting finally.

Wear lipstick

Bit stop and start with this, it’s really hard for me to put lippy on first thing in the morning on early shifts. I like when I do wear it though. I shall persist.

Moisturise

Also hit and miss, more hit than miss though. Regular moisturising is making a huge difference to my skin. I just need to keep building on this habit.
